Aleksandr Kushner was born in 1936 in Leningrad. Graduated from the
Leningrad Herzen Pedagogical Institute, he is worked as a teacher at a
High school (1959- 1970).
Poet, essayist and translator, he has published 20 books of poetry
since his first, The First Impression, appeared in 1962.
He is Chief Editor of the prestigious "New Poet's Library".
Aleksandr Kushner won many Russian literary awards, including the the
Russian State Prize in the field of Literature and Arts (1996).His work
has been translated into many languages.
His books in translation include Apollo in the Snow (Farrar,
Straus, and Giroux, 1991).
