Eddie Tay is a Singapore poet with a stronger Chinese influence than
most. His first book, Remnants, featured renditions of mythic
and colonial Malayan history, and improvisations of Li Po, Li Ho and Tu
Fu. Wong Phui Nam in The Straits Times called the book
“a distinctive first volume” with “a greater specific gravity than is usual
in recent Singaporean poetry”. A Lover’s Soliloquy continues
Tay’s interest in Tang Dynasty verse, with ‘Versions’ of the cryptic and
erotic poet, Li Shang-yin. Eddie Tay lives in Singapore and Hong
Kong.
