Hans C. ten Berge (born Christmas 1938), known primarily as a poet,
also works as a writer of fictional prose and essays, and as a translator.
In 1994 he collected his poetry under the title Materia Prima; an
anthology of his poems in English translation appeared as The White
Shaman in 1991 (Forest Books). His last poetrybook, Het vertrapte
mysterie (The Trampled Mystery),was published in 2004.
Ten Berge published a three volume annotated edition of myths and fables
of Northern Peoples (NW Coast Indians, Inuit & Siberian Peoples). He
has translated poetry by Ezra Pound, H.D., Christopher Middleton, Mark
Strand, Xavier Villaurrutia, Gunnar Ekelöf and others.
