John Paul Minarik

John Paul Minarik was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, USA in 1947. A lifer, in for the 1971 murder of his former fiancée, he earned an additional BA in English and psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh. He founded the Academy of Prison Arts, the first and only prison-initiated organization of its kind, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Minarik is the author of three books of poetry, including Past the Unknown, Remembered Gate. (1981).
