Jesper Svenbro is a Swedish poet, translator, critic, and classics
scholar. He was born in 1944. After studying classical languages
at Lund University, he moved to Italy in 1973, later settling in Paris
where he has worked now for many years as a member of the Centre National
de Recherche Scientifique. To date, he has published nine volumes of poetry,
two collections of essays in Swedish, and translations of Greek, Italian
and French poetry. In addition to numerous articles, he has written three
scholarly works in French on early Greek society and literature, two of
which have been translated into English. |
