Pavel Šrut (1940) is an award-winning poet, writer and translator whose
work includes poetry for children, song lyrics and literary criticism.
Numbering among his publications are translations from the work of English
language writers and poets, including D.H. Lawrence, Dylan Thomas, John
Updike and Leonard Cohen. Mr. Šrut was awarded the prestigious Jaroslav
Seifert Award in 2000, for his collection of poetry Paperback Poems
(Brožované básn?). He lives in Prague.
The translations in this issue are taken from the collection Paper
Shoes (Papírové polobotky – Mladá fronta, 2001).
