|Steven J. Willett
|Steven J. Willett was born Dec. 7, 1941 in Torrance, California. He
holds a BA in comparative literature (German and Greek), an MA in
Classics and a PhD in medieval and renaissance English. He is currently
professor of international cultural studies at the Shizuoka University
of Art and Culture in Hamamatsu, Japan. Besides publishing widely
on versification, metrics, poetics and translation theory, he also translates
poetry from Greek, Latin, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
The University of Michigan Press will publish his study of Classical translation,
Greek and Latin into English: Recent Trends in Classical Verse and Prose
Translation. He is also working on an anthology of Latin elegy in
English for Hackett.
