Ulrikka S. Gernes, born in Sweden in 1965 by Danish parents. In 1984,
Moth, her first collection of poetry was published. Since then she
has published nine collections of poetry as well as frequent contributions
to anthologies, magazines, newspapers and radio.
During the 1990’s Hong Kong was her base and starting point for extensive
journeys around Asia. She returned to Denmark in 1998 and lives in Copenhagen.
A Sudden Sky, a collection of her selected poems was translated
into English by Per Brask and Patrick Friesen and published by Brick Books,
Canada 2001. Apart from that her poetry has been translated into amongst
others German, Swedish, Arabic, Turkish and Slovenian in various anthologies
and magazines.
She has received several grants and stipends, in 2003 she was awarded
a three-year stipend from the Danish Art Foundation.
She has read at numerous international literature festivals, the latest
in Medana, Slovenia in August of 2006.
